Arcade reading room

Call me Ishmael.

The Board keeps a small cabin to steady itself whenever the backlog grows damp and drizzly. Settle in, breathe with the tide, and chart which ideas are ready to sail.

Captain's log

Why the cabin exists

  • Some years ago—never mind how long precisely—The Board went to sea to keep the backlog awake.
  • Whenever a damp, drizzly November hits the queue, the cabin lights up with new votes.
  • This room keeps the cadence steady so nobody knocks hats off in the street.

The Board believes almost everyone feels the same pull toward the ocean when the queue quiets down. This room keeps that pulse gentle and focused.

A calmer way to keep moving

Some years ago—never mind how long precisely—having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation.

Whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately knocking people's hats off—then, I head to sea as soon as I can.

The Board doesn't wait for the mood to lift. It sets sail daily so voting and implementation keep their rhythm, no matter how gloomy the weather gets.
